Notable changes in the x402 ecosystem

A loosely maintained log, not exhaustive

We don't try to cover every announcement — there's enough noise in this space already. This is a short list of changes that seemed genuinely relevant to someone deciding whether to use or build on x402.

JUN 2026

Multi-chain support continues to broaden

Facilitator support beyond Base has continued to expand, with multiple providers now offering coverage across additional networks including Solana, Polygon, and Arbitrum. We've updated our ecosystem tracker accordingly.

2025

x402 Foundation established under the Linux Foundation

Governance of the open specification moved to a dedicated foundation, co-founded by Coinbase and Cloudflare, with a membership roster spanning major payments and cloud infrastructure companies — a signal of broad, multi-vendor backing rather than single-company control.

2025

Google's Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) adopts x402 as a settlement option

Google's broader agent-commerce framework incorporated x402 as one of its supported payment rails, alongside more traditional fiat-based options — a notable vote of confidence from outside the original Coinbase/Cloudflare axis.

MAY 2025

x402 protocol publicly launched

Coinbase published the original x402 specification, introducing the protocol publicly and shipping initial facilitator infrastructure on Base.
